Catnic

The only UK lintel manufacturer to be certified to BES 6001 covering the Responsible Sourcing of Materials.

What do they do?

Catnic is a leading UK manufacturer of steel construction products for the residential sector.

Based in Caerphilly, Wales, Catnic brought the original steel lintel to the construction industry in 1969, and also manufactures other steel products such as standing seam roof and wall cladding, plaster bead and mesh.

Why do we love them?

In 2010 Catnic achieved the Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001 recognition of its environmental management policy, and is the only UK lintel manufacturer to be certified to BES 6001 covering the Responsible Sourcing of Materials.

Cartnic recognise that their day-to-day operations impact the environment in a number of ways, and are committed to achieving continual improvement in environmental performance and pollution prevention, as well as supporting government policy for sustainable development.

Catnic's Thermally Broken Lintels can achieve carbon gains by reducing thermal bridging, making them an economical way for building fabric to be designed and constructed to help accomplish carbon gains necessary, as well as to meet current and future building regulations.

Catnic's sustainability goals include:

1. To reduce its carbon footprint to become a Net Zero Business by 2030
2. To continuously develop products and services that support the construction market’s drive towards sustainable construction – reuse, reduce and recycle
3. To ensure transparency in performance through creating EPDs for the full product range, and 3rd party accreditation including BES 6001, ISO14001 and ISO50001
4. To be an employer of choice with Zero Harm and Wellbeing as core values
5. To maximise material efficiency, minimising on-site waste and maximising waste recovery, with a target of zero waste to landfill by 2030
6. To switch to more sustainable packaging alternatives and eliminate single use packaging by 2024
7. To reduce transport emissions through a phased transition to electric or HVO for all on and offsite vehicles and deliveries
8. To protect and expand the biodiversity that co-exists on sites and in our local communities
9. As part of Tata Steel, to retain Supply Chain Sustainability School Gold Member status
